...as a raw Junior High player in 2005-06, rarely getting opportunities in games. After that initial season, due to some unforeseen circumstances, he went on to play for the Noblesville Lions in 2006-07. Hard work in the off season paid off for Nathan as his first season in Noblesville turned out better than he expected. In just one season, he went from barely playing in 05-06 to becoming the starting shooting guard and captain for the Lions. Nathan led the team in scoring at 11 points per game with a high game of 25 points. He scored 34% of his team's points for the year and the team finished 12-11.
The 2007-08 season was an interesting year for Nathan as he played on 3 different age levels: Jr High, Jr Varsity, and Varsity. Although his overall numbers were down, Nathan started at shooting guard for the Jr Varsity but played a big role also on the Jr High team and even played a little Varsity, scoring 6 points on the season as an 8th grader! He led the Jr High team on a magical run to a runner up finish in the Indiana Christian Basketball Alliance State Tourney, scoring 14 points in a big win over his former Golden Eagles team and following that up with 13 points in the championship game loss against the Huntington Eagles.
There would be a twist in Nathan's career as the 2008-09 season unfolded. While riding in the van with myself one day in September, Nathan decided that he wanted to return to his first club, the Eastside Golden Eagles. So back he went, playing Jr Varsity and Varsity, starting at point guard on the JV. The Golden Eagles won both the JV and Varsity Indiana Christian Basketball Alliance State Tourneys. Nathan made a big play in the JV semi final game, racing down the court to foul a player preventing him from making the game tying layup. The player missed the first three throw, enabling the Golden Eagles to advance to the championship game where they won the state championship. Nathan dressed for the Varsity, but played sparingly.
2009-10 would see Nathan once again start at point guard for the JV and dress but play sparingly for the Varsity, doing very well when given the chance scoring at least 6 points in all games in which he got to play 10 or more minutes. He won another JV State Championship and also was awarded the Christian Character Award for the JV at the National Tournament in Springfield, MO.
2010-11 turned out to be yet another twist for Nathan. Recalling his Lions Jr High team that did so well in the ICBA State Tourney, Nathan began to think about reuniting with his former teammates to make yet another magical run. He decided to once again return to the Noblesville Lions. During the '10-11 season Nathan saw extensive Varsity playing time after sitting the bench for the 3 previous Varsity seasons. Nathan made the most of it by leading the Lions in scoring at 11.3 ppg as the team went 17-18, their best record in years!
Despite all of the twists and turns, and plenty of varsity bench time, Nathan is still on pace to score 1000 career Varsity points, needing 445 going into this year. He is looking forward to leading the Lions to a great season in 2011-12.
